Actually left the factory as the last RHD 912 ever produced - ordered by a British serviceman serving in Germany. Some evidence that it was actually a 911 that was then 'converted' by Porsche to a 912 in the factory. Made its way to the UK in 1972 and then was acquired by a fellow UK early Porsche club - DDKer and converted into a 912 'R' with the 4 cylinder engine. This was then parted from the car for some reason....I think by someone who planned to do what I have ultimately done with the car...but it seems he ran out of inclination/money or both!!!!
I bought the car as a rollling shell in 2008 and undertook the following:
*sourced and installed a 3.2 litre engine and gearbox
*bought PMO carbs
*SSI heat exchangers
*stainless Dansk exhaust
*new headliner
*new ST style seats (it had BMW leather style recaros in it previously)
*new (used) RHD dashtop
*period R style sterring wheel
*turbo type calipers and brakes
*Bilstein shocks
*ARB anti roll bars
*Cibie lights and decals for the faux R look
*New instruments
Got it complete just in time for the Le Mans Classic last year 2010 and went there with 60 other early Porsches (courtesy of DDK) and then put it into astorage until Jan this year for shipping to WA. It arrived 2 weeks ago - looking forward to taking it one some fun drives in WA!!!
